Almada is a city and a municipality in Portugal with a total area of 70 km² and a total population of 164,844 inhabitants. The city itself has a population of 101,500 inhabitants.
Sustainable Procurement Activities
The City of Almada has introduced environmental criteria in the purchase of cleaning products and office paper, and on energy efficiency in the purchase of new buses.
Almada was also a participant in the European project LEAP (Local Authorities EMAS and Procurement). In this project, the city worked in collaboration with 12 other European cities with the aim of establishing a joint procurement platform and introducing environmental criteria into procurement activities.
These measures are part of the Local Development Strategy and also part of the Environmental Certification Process EMAS.
